Shannon Gillespie aboard Pretty Vegas receives the champion’s floral wreath at the conclusion of the Western Hauler Novice Horse 3 Year & Over Hunter Under Saddle Premiere Signature Class on Tuesday night during the Reichert Celebration.
Gillespie, from Appleton, Wisconsin, has won several awards in APHA and AQHA competition as an amateur/non-pro exhibitor. She and her husband, Tim, both gave up their non-pro status this year to train and show for clients.
“We’ve had this mare all year and she’s been great. She’s been to just four events and has earned nearly 300 points, including an APHA World Championship last month, said Gillespie in an interview following the win.
“She showed earlier today so we just tried to keep her cool and fresh for tonight and she was great.”
Raised in Iowa, where the Reichert Celebration was founded, Shannon grew up showing American Quarter Horses. The sire of Pretty Vegas, Real Bonanza, is also an Iowa resident.
